Wellington ferry transfer planning

Start with the ferry operator, terminal and check-in deadline.

Connect's point-to-point service can assess your road journey within its published region. If you are travelling as a foot passenger through Wellington, send the ferry details with your transfer request.

Make the journey work for you

Identify the right terminal

Interislander and Bluebridge have different Wellington terminal arrangements. Do not book a road journey to simply “the ferry”. Copy the operator, sailing date and terminal details from your current booking, and check the operator's latest access information.

Read Interislander's foot-passenger guidance or Bluebridge's terminal information for the service you have booked. A shuttle described by a ferry operator is its own arrangement; it is not a Connect departure.

Plan to reach check-in, not the sailing

Work from the ferry company's required check-in time. Allow for unloading your bags and reaching the correct passenger entrance after the road journey. Ask Connect to assess the pickup time from your exact address rather than using a journey time from another traveller.

Compare a direct trip with a station connection

If you are already travelling into Wellington by train, check the ferry operator's current station-to-terminal arrangements and any connection conditions. Bluebridge's published terminal guide and Interislander's foot-passenger guide explain different options. Check them against your own sailing.

A requested road transfer may help when you start away from a station, have a group travelling together or need a different final address. Compare all legs and luggage handling before deciding. Connect does not sell ferry tickets through this page.

Agree how an arrival pickup will work

A ship's expected arrival is not necessarily the moment passengers are ready outside. Give Connect your sailing details, a working mobile number and onward address. Ask for a specific collection point and a process for notifying changes.

  • Check the sailing information again before travelling.
  • Tell Connect if the ferry time or travel date changes.
  • Confirm whether a delayed pickup can be accommodated.
  • Ask how changed timing affects the road booking and price.

No automatic ferry tracking, unlimited waiting or guaranteed connection is implied. These arrangements need to be agreed for your booking.

Use one clear transfer request

Ferry road connection: [operator], sailing [date/time], required at terminal by [time], pickup from [full address], [passengers], [luggage]. For an arrival: expected docking [time], onward address [ ], mobile [ ]. Please confirm the meeting point, timing and quote.

If the journey also involves a flight or train, list it as a separate commitment. The road booking should not depend on an untested tight connection.

Before you enquire

Is Connect affiliated with a ferry operator?

No affiliation or terminal concession is claimed. This is an enquiry for the road portion of your trip.

Is a late-night arrival available?

Give the date and actual expected pickup time. Availability needs confirmation, and Connect's published overnight additional-cost policy may apply.
