Getting to your Kāpiti Island departure

Check your island booking before arranging another road journey.

Your island visit and your journey to the departure point are separate planning tasks. If you need a mainland road transfer, ask Connect to assess the addresses and timings after checking what your island booking already includes.

Make the journey work for you

See whether transport is already included

Kapiti Island Nature Tours advertises a Wellington return option for some guided visits. Check the exact product you have booked before arranging another transfer. A booking that includes a road pickup may already cover the journey you need.

If your product starts at Paraparaumu Beach and you need to get there from home or accommodation, send Connect a request for that missing road leg. Connect's enquiry here is for mainland transport; it does not book the boat, island permit or island experience.

Separate check-in from the boat departure

The island operator's contact information distinguishes its check-in office from the ferry departure at Kapiti Boating Club. Use the location and reporting time supplied for your actual booking. “Paraparaumu Beach” is not a precise enough drop-off instruction on its own.

Arrange the return and the weather decision

The island operator says sailings depend on sea and weather conditions. Ask when and how it will notify you about your departure, then agree with Connect how to communicate a change. An island operator's refund or rebooking policy does not automatically apply to a separate road booking.

Before accepting transport, ask what happens if a cancellation is announced before pickup, after you have left home or after arrival at the beach. Discuss any alternative outing as a separate option, not an automatic inclusion.

Prepare the mainland load

Tell Connect how many people need the road journey and whether you have overnight luggage that is separate from the bags allowed on your island visit. Ask your accommodation or island operator about any storage you need. Do not assume the road vehicle will remain available to store belongings during the visit.

  • List adults and children and discuss your own required child restraints.
  • Identify bags travelling on the road but not on the boat.
  • Describe boarding needs for the road vehicle before booking.
  • Check island suitability, equipment and biosecurity instructions directly with the island operator.

Use a two-booking checklist

Island operator/product [ ], date [ ], road transport already included [yes/no/unsure], required check-in place/time [ ], mainland return [ ], road origin and destination [ ], passengers/bags [ ], sailing-update contact [ ].

Keep both confirmations together and ensure one group organiser receives updates. Reconfirm the road timing if the island booking changes, even when the date stays the same.

Before you enquire

Does this include a Kāpiti Island tour?

No. This page helps you request a mainland road connection. Book the island experience with the island operator.

Can we use an alternative day if the sailing is cancelled?

Ask both operators about availability and their own change terms. A replacement date is not automatically reserved.
