Bring your own required child restraint

Airport shuttle with a car seat: bring your own

If you need an airport shuttle with a car seat, bring your own required child restraint and discuss it with us before confirming the journey.

Send the restraint details alongside your passengers, luggage and flight information so we can discuss the vehicle arrangement for your family.

Make the restraint part of the booking

Include each child's age and the number and type of restraints you will bring. Give the make and model, and have the manufacturer's fitting instructions available for the discussion. Tell us about any separate base or other parts needed for your seat.

Our guide to how airport shuttles work covers the full booking process. For this enquiry, make the seat details clear at the start so they are considered together with the allocated vehicle and luggage.

Use this enquiry message

We need a transfer from [address] to [airport] on [date], for [adults] adults and [children] children. Our flight is [number], and the airline requires us at the terminal by [time]. We will bring [number and type of restraints], make/model [details], with [base or other fitting parts]. We also have [bags and folded pram details]. Please discuss the vehicle arrangement and pickup with us. Our return flight is [date and number].

Send the information you already have, then ask what else is needed to confirm the arrangement. If your restraint or passenger details change, contact us before the travel day.

Prepare the seat and its instructions

Check the restraint manufacturer's instructions for your child's size and for fitting the seat. For help with suitability or installation, use a qualified child-restraint technician. Waka Kotahi's child-restraint guidance explains where to start.

  • Keep the seat's required fitting parts together.
  • Have its instructions accessible at pickup.
  • Agree who will bring the seat to the collection point.
  • Discuss the time needed for boarding and fitting when arranging pickup.

Plan where the seat goes after the drive

Decide who will handle the restraint when you reach the terminal. If it is travelling with you, check the airline's arrangements for taking it on the flight or checking it in. Keep a record of any parts packed separately, so they are available again for the next road journey.

Write down the return plan before leaving home: who will have the seat, where it will be after landing and whether the same restraint is coming back. This avoids planning a return collection around equipment that is elsewhere.

Finish the rest of the family plan

Count your folded pram, cabin bags and checked suitcases separately from the restraints. Our family airport checklist brings those details together with terminal tasks and meeting instructions. Use Wellington Airport transfers or Palmerston North Airport transfers for the airport you are using.

We encourage booking at least 24 hours ahead. Keep the confirmed pickup instructions with your flight and seat details, and contact us about changes before travelling.

Before you book

Does Connect provide the car seat?

Passengers must bring their own required child restraints. Tell us which seat you will bring when discussing the vehicle and booking.

Can I bring a different seat on the return?

Tell us the return seat details before confirming that journey. Include any different fitting parts, passengers, bags or pram so the arrangement can be discussed.

Who can help me check the seat's installation?

Follow the restraint manufacturer's instructions and ask a qualified child-restraint technician for installation or suitability advice. Discuss your seat and the vehicle arrangement with us before booking.

Tell us about the seat you will bring

Include your child-restraint details, passenger and bag totals, pickup address and flight. Add how you plan to take the seat through the airport and bring it back for the return journey.
